Volviendo a las Raíces: Back to the Roots

  • Cuarto Creciente 143 Alvarado Ensenada, B.C., 22800 Mexico (map)

This workshop will explore the fundamentals of 5Rhythms® movement meditation and is for all levels of practice. Attending this workshop you will develop and deepen the foundation of your practice. Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms® is a dynamic movement meditation that opens the mind/body connection to experience transformation at its highest level. Using the wisdom of the body, each Rhythm is a doorway connecting us to our core being. Moving through the 5Rhythms® we complete a journey called a Wave using the Rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. In Flowing we bring attention inward, exploring self moment-to-moment. This inner discovery finds outward expression in Staccato, giving the body the opportunity to speak beat by beat. Chaos provides us the element of surrender and release, shaking it out body part by body part. When we tune in, express and release, a space opens for creativity and shapeshifting in Lyrical where we tap into the core of our soul being. Shifting into Stillness, a place of deep listening, we come into harmony and full body aliveness breath by breath. Each Rhythm offers a wealth of information and unearthing of self that is present and waiting to be discovered.  Let the music and your body guide you to new terrain as we launch 5Rhythms® Sweats with Spaceholder Marcela Garza in Ensenada.

This workshop is a deep exploration of each Rhythms and will be taught in both Spanish and English. We will travel together from San Diego crossing the border and taking a comfortable bus to Ensenada ($10 each way). Hotel and exceptional food are all a few blocks from the dance studio. Our last journey together was an incredible retreat style adventure together exploring the beauty and welcoming kindness of Mexico. We have openings for those who would like to venture with us to Mexico.

Ray Diaz "I have danced 5Rhythms® since 2007, and other forms of movement since 1999.  5Rhythms has transformed me on all levels of my being. After living in this hardened masculine body for most of my life, I have come into my feminine essence, which continues to evolve and grow.  It has been a huge transformational pathway for me physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, and my gifts continue to reveal themselves in the practice.  I grew up in Harlem in the Late 70’s.  From a very early age, I was told that a man was not supposed to cry, and that the way to gain respect was through violence.  Today, I take the impulse of violence to the dance floor, and my weapons of choice are my music, my feet, my sweat, my heart, and the map of 5Rhythms.  Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms® is my home andsanctuary."  Ray lives in Bronx, NY, and is a world traveler.
